Here is the photo requested by reader Rappel: four paintings sit on a bookshelf, leaning against the old milk-painted hand-planed wall panels, sharing space with the framed paintings of friends: on the right Nancy Grilikhes, on the left David Vereano. I'll move the paintings out to the cold studio after they've had time to dry in the warm house.
Gorgeous! Black V is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like the painting, J.R. Now on to the next one (which will be red and black)....
ReplyDelete!!!! it's wonderful seeing this line up, playing with them visually is really fun. they talk to each other. they're almost like chapters of a novel in this setting.
ReplyDeleteI love the "chapters of a novel" metaphor; thanks for that, rappel.
ReplyDeleteDisconcertingly gorgeous. It's hard for the mind not to see the light in Black V as its own, in this photo. It appears as if the quality of light in the room, the reflections in the glass, fully support the internal light of the painting! What's more is that the little triangle of light hitting Verreano's glass, at the bottom of the mat, is quite close in shape to the triangle of light in Black V. ...Maybe it's me though. I get so easily/visually/usually lost. Was this the same Verreano that was to the left when one entered your Allen Street Loft? My memory has one on a stretched canvas.
ReplyDeletethank you, Kim. It's certainly observant of you to relate that tiny triangle of light on glass to the similar one of paint.
ReplyDeleteThis Vereano is the only one I have, and it's always been under glass. I wish I could remember which painting you're thinking of.....
