I don't think we'll ever again have an unabashedly positive view of any thing that is manufactured.

Glad you enjoyed the post Sophie. I like writing about artists and works that move me, and have done it quite a lot: if I add up all the posts on art history, contemporary art, photography, film, and writing, it must average out to one a week. As spring advances, though, I imagine I'll be focusing more on the garden and a bit less on art.Altoon Sultanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16743040814034732581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658518583188826551.post-31825224366693511662010-03-16T10:05:30.630-04:002010-03-16T10:05:30.630-04:00What a fabulous post Altoon.

I know the first photo but had never seen the last painting which is quite wonderful; serious and playful at the same time. Certainly we've all witnessed the playout of the machine age on the environment and on people. Just thinking about Detroit and the ghosts of River Rouge is enough to take the sun out of the sky this morning ...LINDA from Each Little Worldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02380944603357066650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658518583188826551.post-48774827349440497022010-03-16T08:44:41.641-04:002010-03-16T08:44:41.641-04:00Thank you both for commenting on the last sentence...Thank you both for commenting on the last sentence of this post. I must admit that it was something of a surprise for me, to write that. I'd been thinking about this post for a few days, and knew I was going to include "The Artist Looks at Nature", and approximately what I was going to say about it. Then, as I was writing, Kant's "thing in itself" came to me as relevant to our search as artists, and to questions of realism and abstraction.Altoon Sultanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16743040814034732581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658518583188826551.post-89718244131420327822010-03-15T22:41:45.518-04:002010-03-15T22:41:45.518-04:00I agree: what a beautiful last sentence. Which has always cast such a spell. I can see why he would be important for you.Julie Siegelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17668542359534413638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658518583188826551.post-23093645930569690762010-03-15T21:23:56.680-04:002010-03-15T21:23:56.680-04:00well said, Altoon!
