Evening Light
While waiting for Hurricane Irene to arrive with lashing wind and rain, I wanted to think back a few days to the calm rich glow of a late summer evening. At 7 PM the raking light of the sun flows golden over the garden, like a moment of creation.
The corn tassels are lit like branching chandeliers, fiery against the dark background of woods. The greens of leaves, warm in light and cool in shadow, point and bend in broad patterns contrasting with the linear texture of tassels.
The red of the poppies shifts towards orange in the waning light.
And looking at the young tomatoes, every tiny hair, every surface variation is caught by the low-angled light, allowing us to see the previously unnoticed.

You've certainly captured a tranquil moment. Hope the storm blows itself out before it reaches you. We're watching pictures and storm graphics here in beautiful weather.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the storm. Peaceful look around before the storm. Calm before the storm?
ReplyDeleteLovely concept and illustrations. Yes, good luck with Irene's precipitation etc.
ReplyDeletethanks all for the kind thoughts. It is now pouring rain and very windy, and the worst is yet to come this afternoon. At least my house is high and dry.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see images of late summer evening light while the wind rages the branches of our harboring trees...yes, be glad when Irene asses as I am emotionally disturbed by the assault and can't focus on work.
ReplyDeleteLovely verbal and photographic images Altoon. We too are high and safe, but the wind has shrieked and fought to get in all day, finally seems to be lessening. The pond is sp illing its sides, neighbor's long driveway is in the road, bean poles are toppled, and all the deck pots have turned my dining area into a temporary florist shop. This too shall pass, and the late summer you document shall return.
