Intrepid Snowdrops

We are used to the symbolism of flowers––red roses for love, white lilies for purity and innocence––but when I walked past the budding snowdrops today and saw them rising out of icy snow, I felt that they could be a symbol for bravery. While other flowers still huddle underground, these delicate-seeming flowers emerge into winter. They are a commonplace reminder that life can go on in the most difficult of conditions, and they tell us to take heart.

  1. yes, bravery! Snowdrops knife through the snow and yet have such delicacy...they are a marvel.
