Three Shapes, egg tempera on calfskin parchment, 6 1/4 x 4 3/4 in.
I titled this painting Three Shapes although, of course, there are many more than three; but three is what we are most aware of, one atop the other in the center of the painting. I like the idea of those holes in the surface, each one unlike the other: different shape, different personality. This isn't one of my best efforts, but after abandoning two paintings before this––they just weren't working––it was good to see one through.
Three Shapes, detail
Dynamite! Really interesting shapes, lots to look at, very lively and surprising.
