This splendid, dramatic plant has just begun to bloom, with purple buds opening into frothy white wands. This Cimicifuga (common name Snakeroot) variety is
simplex ramosa Atropurpurea, a very tall plant with purple stems and purplish leaves. The 8 foot flower spikes sway gently in the wind, attracting lots of insects. I love this plant and it does very well in my wet border. I think I'll divide it next spring so I can have two at the back of the border.
